Case study: Furnishing & Decorating a Professional Office
Far from boring and sterile: this professional office welcomes clients with comfort and style.
Before & After
Before:
The clients had signed a lease on a turnkey office suite. The flooring and carpet was in decent shape, the lighting worked, and the climate control was comfortable, but it felt clinical and sterile. The brief requested to both up-level the environment and make it feel more residential.
After:
The space is entirely transformed through fresh wall paint, layers of light, and a mix of thoughtfully-curated new and vintage furnishings.
Project Goals
The clients had signed the lease on a new office suite, to relocate their neurotherapy and counseling practice. They envisioned converting the suite into a calming, pleasant, and welcoming experience for their patients.
The project scope included furnishings, lighting, and paint. Out of scope was changing the flooring, ceiling, millwork, and hardwired lighting.
Key Design Elements
Welcoming use of space. The waiting room emphasizes openness and ease, with plenty of seating options for patients and their loved ones, while the practice room uses furniture scale and placement to create a more intimate feeling.
Curated eclectic style. The clients were drawn to traditional design elements, with dark wood, sculpted lines, brass accents, and crystal chandeliers. In order to create an approachable environment for a wide patient population, we brought in some youthful energy with color and mid-century modern leanings.
Textiles create a cozy and calm practice room. We added softness and comfort to the office used to treat patients through a plush layered rug, velvet-covered sofa, and lacy curtains. The calm feeling is further emphasized with rich velvet drapes covering a full wall, to reduce noise bleed with the adjacent office.
Client Experience
Rory Everitt Design guided the clients through a thorough yet efficient design process, focusing first on nailing layout and dimensions, then defining the style and material palette, before shopping a specific budget to propose specific pieces for furniture, storage, rugs, lighting fixtures, and window treatments. RED managed the procurement process and scheduled a white-glove Install Day to transform the 2 rooms.
In the words of the client:
“Rory was a pleasure to work with! He was patient, understanding, and proactive. He is communicative and thoughtful. Rory helped us through a difficult project and a pivot with no judgment. He turned our office into a warm, welcoming environment that our clients love to come to and we love to be in. Would highly recommend!”
The Result
The final space is welcoming, comfortable, and beautiful, reinforcing the company branding and upgrading the patient experience.
