Osteria DOP refreshes its interiors

Rocky Maselli opened his fast casual pizza restaurant, Osteria DOP, in 2023. After three years of business, he's ready to upgrade its space.

"Working with the space, the original design had a lot of counter seating," Maselli said. "Which is typical of a restaurant like this in Europe, but I think is kind of hard in a town like Eugene. One of our biggest complaints is the seating arrangements."

The changes won't be anything dramatic, but they will make a big difference for customers. Maselli is teaming up with Rory Everitt of Rory Everitt Design to turn former counter seating into booths, add counter seating by the window, and add a waiting space for customers to drink their cocktails. They're also adding pony walls to direct customer traffic flow, and add more shelving to create storefront space for customers.

"On any given night, we use every seat in the restaurant three times," Maselli said. "The magic is that we're fast, and there's a flow in the space, which these changes will help with."

Service is fast, but Maselli still wants his customers to be comfortable. He won't be messing with what has been proven to work in the restaurant, like the chef's table or open concept kitchen. The changes won't disrupt service at Osteria DOP. Everitt will be sneaking in to make changes while the restaurant is closed.

Rory Everitt Design: An Interior Design Practice Built on Craft, Care, and Lived Experiences

An interior design practice rooted in personal service and the art of the craft rather than corporate scale is what defines Rory Everitt Design, an Oregon-based interior design studio founded by Rory Everitt just over a year ago. Operating as a solo-member firm, the studio reflects a deliberate choice to prioritize depth and care over volume, offering clients a direct, collaborative partnership with the designer at every stage of the design project.

Rory Everitt Design positions itself as a full-service interior design firm, helping clients to maximize the use of space, rooted in contemporary simplicity. It provides a plethora of services designed to support clients from ideation to execution. “We guide them through construction and remodeling, decor selection, floor plan layouts, and procurement and installation,” he explains.

Everitt’s entry into interior design was shaped by a lifetime of creative exposure and problem-solving. Raised by a mother who was both a visual artist and a guidance counselor, he grew up in spaces treated as evolving canvases. “She was always interested in beautifying our environment,” Everitt recalls, noting that creativity and empathy were inseparable in her worldview. That influence stayed with him, even as his professional path initially led elsewhere.

Before founding his studio, Everitt built a career in software and engineering, working in UI/UX-focused roles at creative software companies. Designing digital environments sharpened his understanding of how people interpret visual cues and interact with their surroundings. “I was designing in pixels for functional needs,” he says, “and now I’m doing it in the physical realm.” To him, that transition revealed itself as less of a departure than a continuation in the creative world.

Rory Everitt Design Elevates Oregon Interiors Through Function and Beauty

As a full-service interior design studio, Rory Everitt Design leads remodels, décor updates, and new construction with clear communication, practical planning, and a disciplined design process. “Hiring an interior designer is an act of trust,” Everitt explains. “Homeowners are inviting someone into their most personal spaces and investing both time and resources in the process.” The studio honors that responsibility through a collaborative, highly personal approach that respects each client’s budget, lifestyle, and long-term goals.

Many homeowners have a clear vision for how they want their homes to feel, but lack the time, experience, or technical knowledge to bring that vision to life. Rather than asking clients to manage a fragmented team of architects, builders, and vendors, Rory Everitt Design provides a steady, guiding hand throughout the entire project. “Delightful interiors begin with realistic problem-solving, creative collaboration, and well-considered layouts,” Everitt says. “Every design choice is grounded in how clients actually live, and we ensure the cumulative set of decisions adds up to something extraordinary.”

Rory Everitt and his wife, Jeslyn, relocated to Eugene in 2018 when she was recruited to join the University of Oregon. They chose the Emerald Valley as the place to build their life and raise their two young children. Serving Eugene and the surrounding region, the studio works on projects ranging from targeted upgrades to full-home renovations. Recent work includes chef’s kitchens designed for daily delight, wheelchair-accessible primary bathrooms planned with dignity and ease, elegant living rooms for real entertaining, and comprehensive residential transformations.
